usenocturne v3.0 and terbium works a treat now!
quick urls
usenocturne (firmware)
terbium (burner)
once upon a time spotify sold a dirt cheap device that allows you to have a little screen in the car, it was called carthing.
they sold lots of them very cheap and it worked great for skipping through music on spotify while in the car.
kinda low powered hardware but what it did, it did well, fast forward maybe a few years and for some reason spotify decided to kill it off!
we will probably truly never understand the reasons why, maybe demands on the api, issues supporting it, resources to rebuild it, hardware challenges etc etc — we may never know!
fast forward to today however and version 3 seems to have hit the ground running with a very polished easy to install version that just works and has great clean ui and onboarding.
I’ve not been keeping up with the development but the first version was laggy, needed a raspberry pi in the car for hotspot and was just a general hot-mess.
that being said they hung in they managed to reverse engineer the gpu/graphics side and do a clever bluetooth/phone hotspot setup, nice!
it’s not a 1:1 however so please limit expectations but what it does it does very well and brings back a bricked niche hardware product with a new lease of life.
we’re gonna redeploy it back in the car today and I’ll let you know how it goes!
If you want to do the same with your own or one you found on eBay just grab the zip unpack the folder and use the bootloader program site to load that folder on to it.
all you need to do is keep buttons 1 and 4 down as you plug it in and so it has a black screen, you’ll work it out. easy dub.
peace and love mouse x
