housing: it's all so expensive
me and the wife have been going back and forth about houses for most of the year.
the prices here are crazy and they are literally sheds, i don’t see anything so focused on the “quality” side of a property when it’s under half a million and it’s just a big scary shock to want to take something like that on in the middle of the economy as it is.
that being said, real estate, especially where we are year on year is just going up price, the idea of a recession and work changing without a formal “work” plan scares me. i know ai is going to change things a lot and it’s going to be the people who do and the people that don’t.
it’s going to be a real clear divide/division, more than it every has been so the hope is that the people who have invest in the people and the services they offer so they can level up in life too.
even thou it seems like a life time ago i remember when i bought an apartment with my dads help for £29k, top floor apartment, 1 bedroom, had a comfortable job and my mortgage was £300 a month. i was stoked, it was accessible, these days, especially the newer generations are frustrated on the daily that they cannot get on this ladder and rightfully so.
renting here is interesting even thou it feels like dead money while you are stacking money into savings and 401k there is a benefit for having everything managed, one bill, no worrying about multiple energy providers and such like – the ultimate would be to have something we could buy and still maintain this.
but then you have the longer term traveling problems, if i leave, i’m gonna have problems coming back in with the way things are i think, even for say ninety days i think that’s gonna be an issue. we would have to maintain the rent on the property so that’s an issue in itself.
it’s all so, well, uncertain.
if it was up to me i’d do a couple of things, get a fully specced out RV we can drive or find some land of a community that already has a tiny house culture because really when you strip it down you just need a roof over your head, security, heat/cooling and that third space.
we feel incredibly lucky that we can both be remote workers in the way the world is right now, everything seems to be coming to a head on the daily and things are just moving faster than ever, career and money are changing rapidly and it’s hard to keep abreast of that change while you are knee deep in property fixes.
things can change in the blink of an eye so who knows, maybe we will get our time sooner than we think. as we travel around, it has an impact on our commute to anything “social” or “food” we love so much so something has to change, we can’t just be thirty minutes away from civilization before the landscape opens up to humanity.
it’s good to be “out of the way” but you miss the benefits and the enjoyments of being near things and it makes life more enjoyable when you can just run out in 15-20 minutes to get supplies or resources and no have to make a trek, it just opens things up more.
don’t get me wrong, being out of the way, offgrid thinking, ongrid supply, with amazon deliveries and our big costco runs it massively helps but we can’t do the stuff we prefer on a whim.
we’ve also been very interested in the boomer death space of boring businesses that would work a 1000% better with a technology layer. we are both really good at tech and people and we know taking on something like that would help us move forward in life if we had a bunch of “actions” in rotation.
it will come, i’m putting that out there into the universe by typing these words!
