single function ai devices

as much as i love the idea of having this in headphones and maybe a hook up to a mobile phone you just know that it’s gonna be gated or clunky or using a model you don’t want to use – at least with open source and relatively cheap raspberry pi arm hardware you can tinker to your hearts content and get it filling the very niche application you might have for it.
all this really needs is a big of a teenager engineering overhaul to the design part of it to make it cute, or someone like nothing phone or someone similar with a design ethic and you have a really powerful product on your hands. i’d love to make one.
we have been never been more connected and yet so isolated, fascinating.
struggling to talk to each other but happy to augment conversations through a third party that knows everything is somehow better because we don’t have to do what exactly? :)
i’m not sure what the total cost are for these devices but i could see a situation where you have dedicated devices that are agent like that use different models for different activities around a house or homestead – one for the kitchen, one for bedrooms or the home desk, one in the garage or the car, built for different activities where you do different things but need a time saver and want to be handsfree.
some times the “one size fits all” approach of say a home assistant is often marred by the flow and journey you end up going on training the damn thing on the way. i’m excited about relatively cheap things like this that you can build yourself and optimize them for very specific needs.
for instance, think your elderly parents having an elevenlabs version of you (your voice) as a care provider that takes as much input as they feel comfortable and then route any requests at the end to templates you might already have setup for food delivery, uber bookings for hospital trips or other things they often call/message about.
i know that sounds like i’m just outsourcing “family” time by reducing the “human” interaction but often times the issues we see compounded with families is often generational, time becomes this resource that operates differently depending on where you are in your life and each has an urgency often the other fails to account for – this is where i see ai bridging the time sinks.
anyway, ranted enough.
rad project, i want one.
